Mexican Martini
Though the humble martini has had its presence felt since the yesteryears it was only after the success of the Bond movies did it actually become a drink of choice for the general public. There are reports that state that a true pure and perfect martini contains only the basic ingredients viz. gin, dry vermouth and an olive. However I beg to differ on this point as there have been many varied martini recipes that have been concocted through the years and among which the Mexican martini has made its presence felt.
Here are a few Mexican martini recipes for the amateur mixologist.
The ingredients for this Mexican martini are as follows:
- Lemon lime soda
- Lime juice
- Orange juice
- Green olives
- Sweet and sour mix
- Tequila
- Triple sec
- Mint
The method of preparation is as follows:
- Take a cocktail shaker and half fill it with crushed or shaven ice. Add a splash of lemon lime soda and one ounce of lime juice.
- Next add to ounces of orange juice and an equal amount of sweet and sour mix.
- Add two ounces of tequila and one and a half ounce of triple sec to the mixture.
- Shut the lid of the shaker and shake vigorously till all the ingredients are well mixed.
- Strain into a martini glass and serve with a garnishing of mint leaves.
The Mexican apple is another simple and easy to mix Mexican martini recipe. It calls for the following ingredients:
- Half an ounce of white tequila
- Half an ounce of apple schnapps
The method of preparation is as follows:
- Take the above ingredients in a shot glass and mix by giving the glass a swift twist.
- Drink straight up.
The Mexican sunset is a Mexican martini recipe that calls for patience and the following ingredients:
- 1 1/2 ounce white tequila
- 1 1/2 ounce orange juice
- 3/4 ounce of kahlua coffee liqueur
- 1 tsp of grenadine syrup
The method of preparation is as follows:
- Take a perfectly chilled cocktail glass and pour in the kahlua.
- Next shake in the tequila and the orange juice with crushed ice and strain this mixture carefully on top of the kahlua base.
- Pour in a dollop of grenadine and watch it sink to the bottom of the glass.
- Serve with a straw.
