Etched Martini Glasses

Martini is a cocktail that is unique because it allows for tremendous personalization depending on the tastes of the drinker. In keeping with this, martini glasses also offer a great option for personalization in the form of etching. You can choose to etch your name, you anniversary date, your company's or club's name and logo amongst a variety of other designs.

There are two main methods of etching on martini glasses and here is a brief overview of the two methods to help you make the right choice when you get your martini glasses etched.

Hand Engraving

This is one of the oldest methods of engraving on glass and is considered a form of lost art today. This style of engraving ensures that every engraved piece is truly unique as well as distinctive. This method is called the Carborundum wheel engraving and is done by Hand on a lathe with rotating wheels. Each and every cut made on the glass is in fact, deep etched by hand. This required precision that only an experienced craftsman can provide. The precision with which the glass is etched helps to create detail and sharpness and it offers a much cleaner look to the finished piece when compared to the sandblasting method. The one major advantage offered by hand engraving is that you can choose the thickness of each cut. There are usually 4 widths of letters used- Old English lettering is the widest lettering used, monogram letters is medium in size, whereas names and date are usually written in the smaller two sizes. But, the good news is that you can customize this part of the process to ensure that it is to your liking.

Hand engraving is typically used for engraving monogrammed initials, names, or lettering with 1 line of text. If you need more content than this to go on your martini glasses, this process of engraving may not be you. Also, if you need all your martini glasses to look exactly the same, you may want to try the sandblasted method of etching. Finally, if you want to etch your martini glass with logos and designs, hand engraving may not be the best option for you.

Sandblasting

Sandblasting is another very popular method of engraving on glass. In this case, a stencil is used to re-create your art work or your text. With the sandblasting process of etching, you get a smooth frosted look which is whitish in color and makes it really stand out in a crowd. The etching in this case is not as deep as the one done by hand, but there are many advantages of using this technique of etching on martini glasses.

Given that a stencil is used to reproduce you design, you can easily use this method of etching to accurately reproduce your logo designs. Also, if you want to add multiple lines of text to your martini glass, this method is perfect as it is possible to size small fonts to fit small engraving areas.
